1. Using a small styrofoam meat tray(from your local grocer) the
children will make a mural of sea
creatures. Children can glue sand to
make an ocean floor. Provide children with small sea
creatures to color and cut to glue on
tray. Allow children to use green tissue paper to form
seaweed to add to mural. Small seashells
collected at the ocean may be glued on the mural.
After the student has completed his mural
the teacher will wrap blue Saran Wrap around the
mural to make it appear as an underwater scene.
2. Put children into groups of four. Using butcher paper,
tempera paint, and sponges(cut in
shapes of sea animals) the children
can construct an underwater mural. If sponges can not be
used, the teacher could provide paper cut-outs
of sea creatures to create the mural.
3. Using 12-18 piece of white construction paper, allow children
to paint waves across the paper.
After these have dried, allow children
to use sponge cut-outs of sea creatures (turtles, giekos,
fish, etc.) to paint animals on the
waves. (It should look like a sea mural) Roll the paper and
staple. Add 5" strips of colored
tissue paper and attach to bottom. Add string to the top and
hang to make a windsock. Use to
decorate the room.
4. Make blue jello in individual clear plastic cups. Add
gummy fish candy. Let set until firm and
eat.
5. Additional activities from internet resources.
